When over 125 youth gathered together at Asia Plateau, each seeking to see how they could make a difference, they were not to be disappointed. Even for those returning, an experience described as ‘magical’ had taken place. Something that had made their lives better.Each year, in the first week of June, the National Youth Conference takes place. This year too, enthusiastic and energetic youth from different states of India attended the conference. And as has been for the last 10 years or so, the theme remained unaltered, “Lets Make a Difference”. Most participants were attending the conference for the first time. There were others however who wanted a repeat of their experience. Many could not say what exactly it was that had brought them back, but somehow their time at Asia Plateau had changed their destiny and they wanted to get some more. Each day the programme would start at 5.30am to conclude only at 10.30pm. The day would begin with prayers followed by ten minutes of exercises. Quiet time and inner listening was made a habit each morning. Many admitted that they found it very helpful and had decided that they were going to continue this practice in their homes/colleges. “Speech is silver, but silence is gold,” emphasized Viral Mazumdar, the Course Director, on inner listening. The four absolute standards were strongly brought out as a call for the youth where each was encouraged to shine. From ‘Mass to class’ was the theme one of the resource persons used in his message to the youth. “Even the most dishonest man wants an honest servant,” said Mr. Mazumdar on the question of honesty. The ‘Family Day’ turned out to be very emotional and a turning point to many. More than half the crowd was in tears. The youth were led into looking at their family relationships. One point that came very strongly was the fragmented relationships between the youth and their parents. Friendship is missing. One vivid cause that surfaced was the fact that many youth have been witnessing the hatred between their parents. “My parents are always fighting and they still tell me to be good. This makes me confused,” said one of the youth. “But I have also been disobedient to them and have been going my own way. I want to apologize to them,” he continued. One puzzled couple from a neighboring city could not understand what had happened to their son who sobbed a lot as he apologized to them on the phone for being a rude son. Concerned, they came to Asia Plateau to meet him. The boy greeted them with a hug. There were tears of love. As the youth left Asia Plateau many said their lives had been changed. They truly wanted to make a difference. Many wanted to come back for more and they wanted to bring their friends to experience the amazing and magical feeling at Asia Plateau. Some decided to return with their parents to discover that secret of the inner journey, the journey of personal change. Ann Njeri - AP Intern 2007
Wow what an experience with life, Quite late but of course open my ignorant sight. Without leaving any pages of life blank, I believed to fill up book with experiments.
What I gained I exactly can't explain, What I lost I feel SORRY to disclose. Was this my expected life? No, I really messed up with my own life.
There's a race between Death, ME and LIFE. I can visualize DEATH in search of ME, And I in search of Life. In short I'm responsible for the quarrel between DEATH and LIFE. I was late in listening to my inner voice, This always insisted me to abide by the laws of true life. I was swayed away by the worldly desires, And negotiated all noble thoughts for the sake of enjoyment.
People believe I had a cool life' I say dear I had extremely a shellfish life. They do say if they were me… I pray THOU let no one be me.
Friends, foes are all dear, Its only time which places them at rear. Right times approaches me time and again, It's ME who fear to come back again.
Time has brought me in a critical phase, I see misfortune is in deadly chase. I find no where to hide myself, My each Breath reminds me of my past deeds,
My realizations are quite late but of course I own a strong faith. Emotions flow out through tears, As the reality approaches clear and near.
Fun, frolics are my achievement, Friends are my treasures, Parents are my weakness. Nothing is hidden in my life ,Compromising with life to survive.
Relations are at par, emotions are at peak, How would I synchronize it's all the results of my past deeds. Its time to come back dear; Its time to suppress the fear;
